Secret Freedom
In October and November, we are teaming up with LEVEL in Rowsley, Matlock Storytelling’s resident storyteller Rachel Murray and Pyn Stockman as part of LEVEL’s Secret Freedom project – part of the national ‘Our Freedom: Then and Now’ campaign celebrating what freedom means in relation to 80 years since VE Day.
Level’s project connects with Matlock’s history, as the home of the School of Military Intelligence in World War II and the Matlock Secret Army. The project is looking to uncover the role our disabled and learning disabled communities played during and after World War II and how the freedoms of those who are disabled and learning disabled are often secretive to this day. Rachel will be visiting groups and helping collect and share their stories with Pyn in a celebration day on 1st November. For more, keep an eye on our social media and you can also follow Level Centre here.
