Sarah Lianne Lewis

Sarah Lianne Lewis is a Welsh composer who writes for both concert hall and stage, weaving unusual sonorities into bold soundscapes that captivate and challenge audiences, embracing the beauty of the familiar while seeking to reveal the unexpected.  

Her compositions have been praised for their delicate yet powerful music, and performed by leading ensembles including the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Quatuor Bozzini, the Royal Opera and Ballet, the Philharmonia Orchestra, UPROAR ensemble, Orchestre National de Bretagne, and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.  Sarah made history in 2020 as the first woman to be appointed as a resident composer with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales (2020-24).  

Her work has received multiple awards and recognitions, including the George Butterworth Award (2018), the Welsh Music Guild’s Paul Mealor Award for Young Composers (2021), and most recently the Royal Philharmonic Society Award for Chamber-Scale Composition (2025) for her work ‘letting the light in’
